Today I am sharing with you my latest creation "floating cup".
I stumbled upon this idea trolling Pinterest, so I can't take any credit for this brilliant idea. But I did take a process pictures for you, so you will clearly see what to do and in what order.
Alright, I started with cup from NSK
and a stiff wire metal hanger piece
band a cup off piece to create triangle base and loop of top...
Now I took cup and saucer and scraped the porcelain surface, so glue would have a texture to grab on.
Now its adhesive time... My honey is a very handy man and has his own craft shop, so he suggested to use some aggressive glue ( I am thinking E6000 or epoxy would do as well).
you can see how I placed triangle base in the middle of saucer on scratched surface....
now I adhere this "metal stand" and letting it set for several hours..
Next step is to adhere cup to the top loop. And in here your imagination has to kick in. Use what ever you can to stabilize that cup...
Now that you cup (after several hours) adhered to metal stand and floating in the air on its own you need to:
1. band that wire to desirable position as much as possible
2. wrap metal stand with chipboard (I used TP roll that's been sanitized in microwave)
Now the most fun part - altering....
I started with layer of scrap laces laying around matching my lavender thyme...
and added few scraps of doilies and cotton laces....
Next layer was natural skeleton leaves
Tip: take a look how I trailed cotton lace from inside the cup on to wrapped metal stand and decorated that thick part with few petals of flowers.
Now it is exactly up to you and your imagination on how you will decorate the rest.
Tip: I found that starting with larger flowers randomly spreading those all around and then filling in with smaller and smaller is the easiest way to work for me.
